Color Spot in The Desert

I’ve long been interested in the process of leaving spot color in a primarily black and white photo, but I hadn’t tried it before. Here’s the process I used in these photos:

1.       Using Photoshop Elements, I used the selection brush in mask mode to paint over (mask) the area I wanted to remain in color.

2.       Then I went to the Enhance menu and used “Convert to Black and White”.

That’s it, pretty much. I did make adjustments to the black and white regions. I fine-tuned editing in Lightroom.

This process does not require using layers.
